Professor Mike Kosur, a renowed martial artist, has dedicated his life to the pursuit of excellence in the world of combat sports and self-discipline. His journey through martial arts began in 1991 and has since become an inspiring story of passion, resilience, and continuous self-improvement. In 1991, Professor began his martial arts journey starting with wrestling, kickboxing and karate. In 1996, he started his training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & MMA.
Professor Mike served as a police officer for 14 years, retiring from the Chicago Police Department in 2012. While serving as a police officer, he worked many assignments and units. He worked city wide, but mostly Chicago’s West side. During his police career, he continued training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, MMA and self-defense, along with having multiple mixed martial arts/cage fights. Simultaneously, he trained police officers in defensive tactics, street survival and self preservation.
After years of rigorous training and dedication to his craft, he earned his BJJ Black Belt in 2016 from Professor Christian “Xaropinho” Uflacker. Professor Mike felt a profound calling to share his knowledge and experiences with others. In 2018, he established his own martial arts academy, where he began teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. As a professor, he emphasized not only the physical aspects of martial arts but also the importance of mental fortitude, discipline, and respect. Professor Mike is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in BJJ.
Throughout his career, Professor Mike has made significant contributions to the community. He has conducted seminars, workshops, and demonstrations, inspiring countless individuals to take up martial arts as a means of self-improvement and personal growth. His dedication to promoting a positive, inclusive, anti bullying and ego free environment within the Academy, has earned him the admiration and respect of both students and fellow instructors.
